A creative, straightforward, and informative series, 12 Story Library just keeps on giving. The books are well put together with content, pictures, and 'Think About It' sections. Each page invites the reader to think more deeply about the issue addressed in the books. Did you ever have a book which you loved to use as a resource but the content needed updating to remain current with our ever-changing world of information and discovery? Well, along with the book, there is a remarkable website which has the latest news articles, videos, Twitter feeds, and blogs designed to accentuate and enhance the learning experience. It includes top editor picks and featured series. In fact, the webpage is so interesting and exciting, I have no doubt that my students and yours could spend valuable class time exploring and learning from it. Along with the book, it is a powerful and invaluable research tool. The four books I reviewed had the web content under the Science Frontiers tab, a tab which features science phenomena's history, recent discoveries, and challenges. Battling Against Drug-Resistant Bacteria contains chapters on how bacteria become drug resistant, finding solutions to superbugs, how antibiotics work and why they are becoming less effective, alternative treatments such as using phages to combat bacteria, finding good bacteria in soil, using a smart bandage, and how to protect yourself from exposure. The fact sheet found at the end of the book does a terrific job of summarizing the main points. There are both a glossary and additional information section, which includes the 12storylibrary.com website. After reading the book, I ventured onto the webpage and found it to be bursting with news, maps, a photo gallery, more resources, and tweets. You have to check out the Ninja vs. Superbugs video. And as luck would have it there were tweets today about Google title page celebrating Antoni van Leeuwenhoek's 384th birthday and discovery of the animalcules. Very cool! As a teacher, it is extremely important when my students do research that they have access to quality resources that are not only current but on the cutting edge. These four books and their specific websites are superior and designed to motivate any type of learner. With their multi-sensory and technological advanced approach, they are an absolute necessity for today's classroom and the classroom of the future. NSTA [Jan 2017]
